a killer cool biker/skateboard gang, the creation story of northern lights- all infused with sweet melodic beats? EPIC.

#nowplaying; million voices x otto knows!

I would have switched out the Taylor Lautner Twilight look-a-like for a basket carrying everyone's favorite intergalactic dood E.T, but other than that, OTTO truly does KNOW(S)!!

i'm a douche. sorry. catch up time!!

Wasabbiiiiiiii, mothalovahs!!!!??? Oh my YSLCCMQ (the holy trinity that is Yves Saint Laurent, Coco Chanel, & McQueen, duh!) have I completely sucked a big one at blogging. With ho-ing myself out to classes and then becoming a slave at work (yes, I got one of those!! Whaaa??) day in and day out, I've had quite the hectic semester. When I do have some free time you'll either find me stuffing my face with some kind of glorious burrito/tacos/chimichangas/alloftheabove or giving my drunken best rendition of "Benny and the Jets" at some dive bar at the beach. Yeah, blogging hasn't been on my mind. Hey, would you rather me lie to you or own up to my bitchassness? Haha. BUT, I have been tweeting daily though (I know, how does that make sense???), so just incase I go on a bender again get your stalker-self over to my twitter @AnEclecticMind to see what I'm up to.

Anyway... so a lot has gone down since I've been on the bro stroll but the only thing that has me crying at night in horror has been...

GallianoGate:
When I first heard of Galliano's Mel Gibson escapades in Paris, I was shocked and about to fly over there and slap the peasantry out of the accusers for saying such a thing about my favorite real life pirate. Galliano? Anti-semetic? No chance. But as soon as I had finished my "Moses hearts Galliano" t-shirt, The Sun got ahold of a video (click to view) and a gaze of "Oh, hell to the naaah! Galliano, whyyyyy!!??" came over my face. This is what he so biligerently but clearly said:
"But I love Hitler. People like you would be dead. Your mothers, your forefathers, would all be fucking gassed. You're ugly."
My level of disappointment and disgust was worse than when I saw a man wearing overalls, a fannypack, and crocs at the same time! Horrendous! But seriously, it was just a very big let down to know that a person of such creative genius and designing greatness would carry such views. Taken that he was drunk, it still is no excuse to say such nauseating remarks EVER. I'm still in disbelief and I've become torn as to what to think of his work; a part of me can't deny how otherworldly talented he is as a designer and how his collections have enthralled me time and time again and then a huge part of me feels McDirty by supporting him. So that's my question, can/should you seperate the art from the person? Business versus personal? But how can you respect and love one and hate the other? It truly is quite a predicament. I'm also disappointed that we wont be able to see his creations for quite a long time. I'm positive this will blow over but not anytime soon. It's just a sad and unfortunate situation for fashion and just humanity in general. Au revoir, Galliano. For now.

Btw, how'd ya like my lil photo editing skills? Haha.

New Britney! HOLD IT AGAINST ME = ELECTRONIC DAZE EXTRAORDINAIRE!!

[if it doesn't play for you, just youtube it!]
Whhhhaaaaaatttt in the awesome electronic dance beat of greatness is thiissss!?? I'm not necessarily a Britney fan, but I can't deny that her beats are always freaking dope... but THIIIIIISSSSSSSS, this just blows EVERYTHING out of the water!!!!! I'm a huge aficionado of everything dance/electronic/house (my sister and I have weekly battles of who finds the illest new mix. Dance off's are obviously included!) and this Britney, Max Martin and Dr. Luke creation is delivering a potent batch of electronic euphoria that rivals my current musical infatuations on my iTunes most played list. For damn serious! I immediately feel deep into an intoxicating daze as soon as I put on my headphones (which btw, to get the full on ecstacy and intricacy of the beats I HIGHLY RECOMMEND whipping them on!) and hit play for the first time- my eyes closed, my hands automatically started karate chopping the air, my body started convulsing like Tila Tequila's first 12 hrs in detox, my head started banging harder than my buds drunkenly shaking the maracas on Spring Break in Cancun--- I floated!!
"Hold It Against Me" is pure euphoria and I give it my stamp of approval obsession! Plus, this has the potential of having a siiiiccckkkkkkkkk music video with some hardcore dance scenes. Fuck. yeah! I sure hope the rest of her albums delivers comparable electronic glory. Here's to that!

Rihanna's "Who's That Chick" visual overdose of CRAZINESS!!

Seeing that I'm 99.9% sure that this is how a trip on a mix of acid, ecstasy, and a head to head battle of David Bowie in 1972 vs. Marilyn Manson craziness feels like... you'll probably have to check into the Betty Ford rehab center shortly after viewing this (just make sure to give them my name when you arrive... I'm one of their #1 clients, you'll get a discount of some sort. Promise.) but it's totally worth watching. The infectious song and the day/night side by side comparison plays out to be quite an epic visual overdose. Awesssoooo0000oooome!

Addicted by Enrique Iglesias circa 2003 - when videos made sense.

A lil blast from the past via Enrique Iglesias and Mischa Barton (at her prime). I totally dig the lyrical heaviness: "Baby I'm addicted, I'm out of control. But you're the drug that keeps me from dying." And the cinematography, oh the cinematography!!! It's all kinds of amazing; dramatic, lovely, seductive, and heart wrenching. Man, I sure miss the days when music videos weren't meant for pure sensationalism (I'm looking at you, Gaga!) and actually touched you in a non-R. Kelly manner. If you're ready for some pure video perfection, 'Addicted' will serve you well.  Enjoy.

GANT by Michael Bastian Video Campaign = dashing!

Earlier last week, Saks Fifth Ave in NYC hosted the launch party for GANT by menswear designer & personal favorite of mine, Michael Bastian and today I came across his video campaign for the s/s 2011 collection. Take a looksy:

How very Mad Men of them, right? The clothes speak volumes to me and I only wish that I could go back in time and in live in the era where classic good tastes ran eloquently rampant. But since I have yet to perfect my time traveling skills (yes, I am trying), I am more than stoked to settle for some loving via Mr. Bastian's dashing collection. Truly splendid.

Huge, huge, HUGE fan of Yeasayer and even more so of this music video for O.N.E. If you like your '80s neon under ground club intergalactic acid trip extravaganza than you're in for an epic musical journey.
And for the record, I need one of those M.C. Hammer harem tie-dye Proenza Schouler-esque shindigs.
Seriously, first-day-back-to-college-outfit? Check.

Here Dejan Jovanovic Goes Again!

From esteemed fashion photog Justin Wu we get a nicely highly spirited short film. With Nathalie Agency model Dejan Jovanovic as the jovial lead, Ok Go as the soundtrack and the Eiffel Tower as a backdrop... it's a good-humored piece for the summer days. Plus Dejan doesn't fail to bring a smirk on your face with his quirky & chirpy little dance moves. I don't know about you guys but I plan on making my very own version the next time I visit la Dame de Fer. Oui, je suis un dork! Haha.

Lights, camera, grungy action!

William Richard Green AW10 Fashion Film
by Zaiba Jabbar
[Winner of the Vogue Italia & ASVOFF 1MINUTE “LIGHT” Series competition]
"The designer and I wanted to create a film using light in constant motion. The Rubber Jacket especially absorbed and displayed the moving pin prick lights beautifully. These grungy outlined glimpses of the model with the moving light and void-like negative space infected the key pieces of the AW10 Collection to create a tectonic and mysterious mood for the film which echoed the heroic and anti-heroic ideas of the collection."

Alejandro... please don't call my name. Ok, nevermind. Wait, nope.

"Reminiscent of if not very much inspired by "Like A Prayer"-era Madonna (Remember when Madonna set those crosses on fire? And also wore lingerie, humped a bed, and involved comically protruding bras on her Blond Ambition tour? Bad Madonna! Very bad!) -- Gaga's "Alejandro" video could be interpreted as Gaga striking out at organized religion's repression of sexuality and homosexuality. Those soldiers who look an awful lot like Nazis? (If you're reading this, "Religious Right," though you're probably not reading this, we're 150 trillion % confident Gaga's the last person on earth you could peg as a Nazi sympathizer. They're REFERENCES, people. REFERENCES.) Perhaps we have Gaga's version of stomping out gay persecution, homophobia, and intolerance. (Or maybe I just wrote too many lit crit papers in college.) Is "Alejandro," which features Gaga dressed like a hot lady version of the Pope, a stylistic statement against religion's oppression of sex? Especially gay sex? Or maybe Gaga just likes to dominate spectacularly chiseled men cross-dressing in fishnets and heels. Fine with us. Gaga herself said that the video is "a celebration of my love and appreciation for the gay community," and she definitely delivers plenty of gay. While Gaga did speak out against "Don't ask don't tell" on Larry King Live, it's doubtful Gaga would make a video that obvious. Strip away all of the militaristic symbolism, Matthew Barney allusions, love games, and Gaga's inability to get with her gay friends, and the takeaway feels like "Alejandro" is Gaga's eff you to homophobia."
- MTV Buzzworthy Blog
I was all types of WTF'ed out after viewing Gaga's 'Alejandro' but after reading this litter blurb by MTV's Tamer Anitai, it makes a bit more sense to me. Well, kinda. Although I think that LG's videos are always incredibly well made and epically theatrical, I just would like for her videos to go along with her songs again and not just for sensationalist purposes (ahem, Telephone, Bad Romance, and this current piece). Before seeing sneak peaks plastered all over the interweb, I was expecting something summery á la Eh Eh (Nothing Else I can say) or to at least go with the actual lyrics. Bummer. Maybe that's just me clinging on to the masterpieces of the '90's but sometimes I feel when she makes a video she just tries to be as "shocking" as she can for fucks sake, has no care to the actual song, and then when all is done she just injects whatever song is her single at that moment. I'm not saying that I don't enjoy them nor have respect for them but damn it, wtf? Anyways, 'Alejandro' was every flavor of cray cray and although I didn't understand how her stance against homophobia, religion, etc had anything to do with the actual song (which btw, I am with her on such matters- just not blasphemy though), I can still appreciate it... I'll just have to mute it and play some dramatically-intense-war time-orchestral music instead for it to make sense to me- that's all.
Thoughts?

"A Fairy Tale For Grown-Ups"

I had heard nothing but praise about this spanish film but I had never had the opportunity to view it, that is until yesterday. And boy let me tell you, all the hype did no justice to the film's actual magnificence. From beginning to end, I was completely enraptured by everything. Definitely a 'fairy tale for grown-ups'. Once again, Guillermo del Torro delivers a beautiful masterpiece. I really don't want to give anything away nor could I really explain the storyline properly, so instead just view the trailer below and be prepared to be mesmerized! Enjoy.
Pure gloriousness, right? Right! So what are you waiting for? Netflix it, rent it, buy it, download it... just watch it, pronto!

Best cover of Bulletproof, EVER!!!

I totally dig La Roux's Bulletproof and have been jamming to it for a long time. It's a permanent fixture in my daily iTunes overload. Not only do I freaking love La Roux's voice but I also dig the actual lyrics to the song. Really strong and powerful. So then I got to thinking how great it would sound in a slow acoustic kind of cover. Naturally, I got my ass on youtube because you can find EVERYTHING on it. I really didn't find anything that spoke crazy emotional greatness and I was going to call it quits until I accidentally landed on a cover by Athlete. And oh sweet baby Jesus, I struck musical bliss!! The lyrics definitely came alive as they were infused with a bigger dose of an emotional punch. La Roux, je t'aime but these crooners straight up made love to me. As a matter of fact I did more researching and everything by Athlete is damn legit!!! So after you give this rendition of Bulletproof a go, I highly suggest you look these chaps up. Enjoy.

Miley Cyrus. Sexified. Can't. Be. Tamed- New Video.

Miley Cyrus has stepped right into the direction of former Disney starlets that have come before her (ahem: Britney, Xtina, and LaLoca) and has vamped up her image big time. She's all sexified. And you know what... power to her. If she wants to hoochie it up, what can we do?  At least she didn't half ass it. She's in tune with her inner whore committed. I feel like a dirty skeeze but altogether I can most definitely dig it. Yes, I admit it. And gangstahs, I know you do too. I know you'll be secretly watching this vid over and over again and even download the tune itself. The second coming of Britney Spears? Very well so!! Is that a good thing? You decide.

Interactive horror thrill heart-attack.

Oh. My. Freaking. Rick Owens (bc he scares me)! I would serious pass the fuck out if I were to ever experience this level of horror! But damn it... I am beyond game for this!! Screw 3D glasses, interactive phone calls is totally where it's at! Mark my words. Haha.

Whooaaa, this is definitely not the Valentino that I have known and loved!

Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli are sure vamping up the famed fashion house and I don't know how I feel about it. When I think of Valentino, I think of romanticism, flowing garments, elegance and sophistication and this is not any of those things. Although I do think it's great to modernize a bit, this is just kinda tripping me out. Even though Valentino stepped down in 2008 his essence still remained... well, until the Spring 2010 Couture Collection came along. As soon as I saw the array of neon-tribal-cyberworld craziness, red flags were definitely raised in my head. And now with this little number, I'm just all types of concerned. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the short film and I do believe that Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott are great at what they do, it's just that I would never ever place rocker-heroine-chic in the same sentence as Valentino, EVER. Tell me I'm not alone here! There is some serious WTF going on here. Signor Valentino Clemente Ludovico Garavani, if you're reading this, get your incredibly genius orange self to your atelier and sprinkle some of your Valentinoness asap! Please.

A bare body- the perfect canvass.

Doing justice to Austrian symbolist painter Gustav Klimt, Eniko looks ridiculously phenomenal in the next issue of 25 Magazine. The calibre of body art in this piece is damn remarkable. The whole concept behind this shoot is pretty rad and the outcome is completely mesmerizing. And although I dig the crap out of the photos, I am more fascinated by the behind-the-scenes video. Perfectly hypnotizing.

Currently on repeat...

OneRepubic never fails to capture my full musical attention and just like all the other songs I become obsessed with, I have it purposely on repeat on my iTunes. I'm also really diggin' the music video to it... which reminds me, I need to go to a masquerade sometime in the near future. Absolute perfection. It's also the opening song to Tinsley Mortimer's reality tv show Gossip Girl 'High Society' and it goes perfectly with the adventures and turbulence that encompasses being part of the Manhattan scene. I definitely don't miss those days but my return is definitely something I've been pondering lately. Except this time I'm more than prepared. Until that day comes, enjoy.
All the right friends in all the right places
So yeah, we're going down
They got all the right moves in all the right places
So yeah, we're going down

Let's paint the picture of the perfect place
They got it better than what anyone's told you
There'll be the king of hearts
and you're the queen of spades
And we'll fight for you like we were your soldiers
I know we got it good, but they got it made
And the grass is getting greener each day
I know things are looking up
but soon they'll take us down
Before anybody's knowing our name

They got all the right friends in all the right places
So yeah, we're going down
They got all the right moves in all the right places
So yeah, we're going down

Said everybody knows
Everybody knows where we're going
Yeah, we're going down
Said everybody knows
Everybody knows where we're going
Yeah, we're going down

Do you think I'm special, do you think I'm nice
Am I bright enough to shine in your spaces
Between the noise you hear and the sound you like
Are we just sinking in the ocean of faces
It can't be possible, the rain can fall
Only when it's over our heads
The sun is shining everyday but its far away
Over the world they said, they got

They got all the right friends in all the right places
So yeah, we're going down
They got all the right moves in all the right places
So yeah, we're going down
